Duane Richard Plueger, 65, of rural Le Mars died Tuesday, Dec. 26, 2000, at a Sioux City hospital. Services were held on Saturday, Dec. 30 at 2:00p.m. at Christ Lutheran Church in Grant Township, rural Le Mars. The Rev. Peter Boe officiated. Burial was in Christ Lutheran Cemetery under the direction of the Mauer-Johnson Funeral Home, Le Mars.

Duane was born June 26, 1935, in Grant Township, Plymouth County, Iowa, the son of Richard and Marie (Beeck) Plueger. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. He graduated from Le Mars Central High School and served in the U.S Army from 1954-1956. He married Janice Monckton on Aug. 31, 1957, in Aurora, Minn. The couple made their home in the Le Mars area where they operated the Ireton Cafe. He then farmer in various locations and drove a truck for Darrell Molzen Trucking. He was later employed with Borchers Grain and Feed in Brunsville for several years and farmed in Grant Township until retiring. Mr. Plueger was a member of Christ Lutheran Church and American Legion Heeren-McHale-Wilken Post 724 in Brunsville.

Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Brenda Becker of Le Mars; three sons and their wives, Michael and Joni of Orange City, Russell and Susan and Scott and Michelle, all of Le Mars; six grandchildren, Maria, Isaac, Crystal, Heather, Gerrod and Nicole Plueger; and two step-grandchildren, Taylor and Travis Hofmeyer.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Marlin.
