Daniel J. Sweeney

Daniel J. Sweeney, 79, Sioux City, died Saturday, April 13, 1974 at a hospital after a short illness.

Services were at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Blessed Sacrament Catholic church with his brother, Rev. Msgr. Richard V. Sweeney, pastor of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, officiating. Burial was in St. Joseph's Cemetery at Ellendale, Merrill. Pallbearers were nephews, Robert and Paul Sweeney, C. L. Fredrickson, Robert Pridie, Allen Sitzmann, and Paul Harpenau. Honorary pallbearers were members of the Faternal Order of Eagles Lodge 77.

Mr. Sweeney was born Feb. 27,1895 near Hinton. He farmed in that area until 1946 when he moved to Sioux City. He was employed at St. Vincent hospital for 25 years and retired in 1971. He was a member of the Cathedral of The Epiphany, Fraternal Order of Eagles and Junior Pioneer Boys of 68.

Survivors are three brothers, Msgr. Sweeney of Sioux City, Thomas H. Sweeney of Akron, and Peter M. Sweeney of Sioux Falls; three sisters, Sister Mary Consolata Sweeney OSF of Dubuque, la., Mrs. Eileen Vondrak of Le Mars, and Isadora Sweeney of Sioux City, and several nieces and nephews.
