Ruth A. Lamoureux

Ruth A. Lamoureux, 76, rural Akron (Ruble), Iowa, died Saturday (June 10, 1989) in a Sioux City hospital after a brief illness.

Services were held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday in Plymouth Presbyterian church, rural Akron. Rev. Hatty G; Duncan T officiated; Marilyn Taylor, soloist, sang "Take My Hand Precious Lord" and "This Is My Country", accompanied'' by Shirley Timmons, organist. Pallbearers were David Allen, Loren Oetken, Kerry L. Treinen, Larry W. Marbach, Mike Lamoureux, Darrell Klemme, and Ed Lamoureux. Burial was in Plymouth Presbyterian Church Cemetery with military graveside rites conducted by Oleson- Halweg Post 125, American Legion of Merrill. A prayer service was held Tuesday evening in Schroeder Funeral home in Akron.

Mrs. Lamoureux, the former Ruth A. Marbach, was born Oct. 30,1912, in Ruble, to Henry C. and Mattie M. Johnson Marbach. She graduated from Akron high school in 1930, continuing her education at the.Lutheran School of Nursing in Sioux City where she graduated in 1934. She worked as a private nurse from 1934 to 1942 at the. Akron hospital. She enlisted in the U.S. Army as a nurse in 1942. She took basic training at Fort Leonard Wood, Mo., and went overseas to England in September 1943. In 1944, she served as a surgical nurse with the 39th Evac hospital in France. She moved with Gen. George Pat ton's Third Army across France, Belgium and into Germany. She was discharged with honors from the service in January 1946 with the rank of captain ANC. She was the recipient of the Bronze Star and Meritorious Medal with the Women's Army Corps in the European, African, and Middle Eastern Theaters.

She married William A. Lamoureux Jan. 24, 1946, at Merrill. The couple farmed near Akron for a year and moved to Merrill where they farmed for 18 years. They moved to Ruble and operated Bill's Trading Post until 1986. She also worked at various nursing assignments until they moved to Ruble' at which time she served as Akron Community school nurse for 12 1/2 years. She then took a position as Head Start program nurse until her retirement. Mrs. Lamoureux was a member of Oleson-Halweg Post 125, American Legion of Merrill.

Survivors include her husband; a son and daughter-in-law Thomas W. and Rosa of Cerritos, Calif.; a daughter and son-in-law, Mary H. L. and Lynn Hovland of West Des Moines; three grandchildren, Jennifer
L. and Andrew T. Lamoureux and Collette A. Lamoureux and a step-granddaughter, Tatina L. Armstrong; a former daughter-in-law, Candice Greenwood of Grand Forks, N.D.; two sisters, Mrs. Elmer (Helen) Hoffman of Le Mars and Mrs. Kenneth (Wilma) Treinen of Remsen; and two brothers, Kenneth Marbach of Sioux City and Lowell Marbach of Le Mars.

She was preceded in death by her parents.
