WM. HANSEN IS CALLED. Aged Resident Passes Away After Years of Illness. Was 65 Years of Age.

William Hansen, a brother of P. N. Hansen and of Mrs. John Tonsfeldt, passed away at the home of the latter last Friday afternoon, September 1, after a prolonged illness. The funeral was held Monday, with interment in the Remsen cemetery. Mr. Hansen was 65 years of age, and is survived by one sister and two brothers.
Sixteen years ago Mr. Hansen was dangerously ill, and since that time he was never in perfect health. He made his home with the Tonsfeldt family all these years, assisting in light work while the family lived on the farm, but in recent years he began to fail again, his ailment growing and weakening him rapidly during the past two months. Death relieved him of his suffering at 3 o’clock last Friday afternoon.
Wilhelm Heinrich Hansen was born in 1857, in Schleswig-Holstein. He received his education at this native home and confirmed in the Lutheran faith, to which he adhered throughout his life. In 1875 he accompanied a friend to this country and made his home with a brother in Benton county, Iowa. He came to Plymouth county in 1884 and for some years lived with his brother, Christian. Since his illness 16 years ago he has been living with his sister, Mrs. John Tonsfeldt. Mr. Hansen never married.
The deceased bore his physical handicap with the utmost patience and often expressed himself as thankful to his Maker for the excellent care and comfort with which he was blessed. He was a staunch Christian and a strong member of the Lutheran faith, but of late years he was unable, because of his weakness, to take an active part in the activities of his church. His disposition and kindheartedness won him many friends, who were grieved to learn of his death and who extend sympathy to the bereaved relatives.
He is survived by his sister, Mrs. John Tonsfeldt, of Remsen, and two brothers, P.N. Hansen of Remsen, and Math Hansen, of Windom, Minn. Two brothers preceded him to the other world.
The funeral was held Monday afternoon, with services at the home at 1:30 and at St. Paul’s church immediately thereafter. Rev. A. H. Juergens had charge. The last sad rites were largely attended, since the deceased held the highest esteem of hosts of friends. The pall bearers were: Ewald Jurgensen, Peter Rann, Henry Maass, Peter Erichsen, John Schutt, and John Sanny.
Relatives from a distance who attended the funeral were: Mrs. Chris. Hansen and sons Will and Paul, Scotland, Minn.; Mrs. B. L. Tesdel, Mrs. H. C. Burnstedt and Miss Emma Tonsfeldt, Des Moines; Mr. and Mrs. P. H. Tonsfeldt, Mr. and Mrs. Nick Molzen, Mr. and Mrs. Peter Molzen, Mrs. Chris Molzen, Mr. and Mrs. Peter Kalsen and Mr. and Mrs. Jess Kalsen, Le Mars, and Hans Bruggemann, Windom, Minn. – Remsen Bell-Enterprise, September 7, 1921, page 1, column 5.
