George Hagar Dies, Remsen Rites Held Wednesday.
George D. Hagar, 67, a well known realtor of Plymouth county died Sunday, Feb. 22, after an illness of six months.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, Feb. 25 at 1:30 p.m. at the Fisch funeral home in Remsen and at 2 o’clcock at St. Paul’s Evangelical church. The Rev. Paul Wuebben conducted the services. Burial was in the Remsen cemetery.
George Dow Hagar was born April 28, 1885 at Avoca, Wis. He came to this vicinity with his parents when he was a small boy and lived on farm near Alton many years. He was married in 1908 to Mary Etta Van Steenwyk who preceded him in death in 1949.
He was a realtor in Remsen 21 years before moving to Le Mars in 1944. He was married to Evelyn A. Meares March 4, 1950.
Survivors besides his wife Evelyn are two sons,, Howard of Seattle, Wash., and George D. of Le Mars; three daughters, Lillian Luken of Seattle, Mrs. Roman (Marian) Groff, Remsen and Alice Meares at home. Also surviving are his mother and stepfather, Mr. and Mrs. L. B. Sullivan of Twin Falls, Idaho, 12 grandchildren and two great grandchildren. – Le Mars Sentinel, Feb 25, 1953, page 1.
