Andrew E. Siebens
Andrew "Andy" E. Siebens, 96, of Le Mars, passed away Thursday, January 20,2000 at the Abbey in Le Mars.
Services were held Tuesday, January 25, 2000 at the Calvary United Methodist Church with Reverend Joe Florendo officiating. Interment was in Memorial Cemetery. Pallbearers were Daryl Siebens, Vernon Harrington, Wayne Marty, John Trobaugh, Warren Bock and Elvin Lippke. Mauer-Johnson Funeral Home, Le Mars, was in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Siebens was born January 25, 1903 on the family farm in Johnson Township, rural Plymouth County, Iowa to Esdert and Gasky (Huls) Siebens. He attended country school in Johnson Township. He married Blanche Cummins on September 8, 1925 in Akron, Iowa. They farmed near Akron for a few years. He also worked in a hardware store in Akron and was the cemetery sexton of Riverside Cemetery in Akron for several years. They moved to Le Mars and he started A & B Appliances with Bernie DeBoer. He continued to sell and repair appliances and repair small engines in Le Mars for several years. Later, he operated a carpet cleaning and handyman business in Le Mars until retirement. He made his home at The Abbey in Le Mars since December of 1998.
He was a longtime member of Calvary United Methodist in Le Mars, past Master and 60 year member of the Giblem Lodge #322 of Le Mars known now as the Floyd Lodge #537 of Orange City, member of the Order of the Eastern Star Chapter 70 of Le Mars, and a member of the Masonic York Rite Bodies.
Survivors include his wife; three granddaughters, Ann and her husband, William Miss of Pittsburg, Kansas, Joan and Sue Siebens of Dallas, Texas; two great grandsons, John Powers of Mitchellville, Indiana and William Miss III of Pittsburg, Kansas; and a sister, Martha Siebens of Pompano Beach, Florida; and several nieces and nephews.
Mr. Siebens was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Evonne Siebens; a son and sister-in-law, Arden and Ruth Siebens; and his brothers and sisters.
