PIONEER RESIDENT IN PORTLAND
Daniel Searls settled Near Akron Forty Years Ago
Daniel J. Searls, a pioneer resident of Portland Township, died on February 16, at the age of 86 years and 10 months.
Mr. Searls as a native of Ohio and subsequently lived in Illinois. He settled in Portland township in 1883 buying halt a section of practically unimproved land. For many years he has been recognized as one of the most substantial and progressive farmers in the community. Of late years he lived in Akron.
He is survived by his wife to whom he was united in 1860 and four sons and three daughters. Three of his sons Gilbert, Fred and Howard reside in Portland Township.
