Harold J. Whiting, Jr., of Akron, Iowa, passed away Thursday April 27, 2000 at a Sioux City Hospital.
Funeral services. Monday, May 1, 2000 at Westfield Congregational Church Westfield, Iowa. With Rev. Steve Jewett officiating. Burial was in Memorial Park Cemetery Sioux City under the direction of Schroeder Funeral Home, Akron. Music will be Shirley Banks as vocalist, and Sheryl Banks as pianist. Music selections included "Abide With Me," and "O God Our Help In Ages Past."
Mr. Whiting was born March 16,1924 in Hawarden, Iowa the son of Harold and Dolly (Herman) Whiting Sr. He married Lorna Taylor in Sioux City, Iowa on January 30, 1946. He farmed in the Westfield and Akron area all of his life. He drove school bus for Westfield and Akron Westfield schools for twenty years, retiring in 1991. He lived in rural Akron until 1995 when they moved to Akron. Mr. Whiting was a member of Westfield Congregational Church. He loved to play cards in his free time and drive around the area.
Survivors include his wife Lorna, one daughter Debra and her husband Lonnie Schuchard of Sioux City; a grandson Brandon Schuchard; a granddaughter Melanie Schuchard, two sisters, Violet Madden of Des Moines, and Florence and her husband Alfred Husmann of Hawarden, Iowa; five nieces and four nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a son Bobby Whiting.
Pall Bearers were: David Feauto, Gary Moffatt, Steve Utesch, Scott Taylor, Rusty Taylor and Doug Switalski.
