MRS. J. ELLLSWORTH DEAD. Remsen Woman Passes Away at Le Mars Hospital After Brief Illness.
Mrs. Jeff Ellsworth passed away at the Sacred Heart hospital, Le Mars, Tuesday night, after a brief illness with spinal meningitis, which resulted from toxic poisoning. Mrs. Ellsworth was 47 years of age. She is survived by her husband, seven sisters and six brothers. The body was brought to the home in Fredonia township Tuesday evening, and the funeral will be held Friday afternoon.
Mrs. Ellsworth enjoyed good health all her life until a month ago, when she began to fail, but she thought little of her illness in its early states. On Sunday, April 30, she was taken to the Le Mars hospital, and in spite of the best of treatments she gradually declined. Last Friday she lapsed into unconsciousness and never rallied. Death relieved her of her suffering at midnight Tuesday.
The deceased was born on a farm near DeWitt, Clinton county, Iowa, April 18, 1875, and at the age of seven years she moved with her parents to a farm near Ashton. Her education was completed at Ashton and Sheldon, and later she taught school in that vicinity. She also taught school for three years in Oregon, and upon her return to Iowa was married to William Donlin, at Le Mars. Mr. and Mrs. Donlin were engaged in the restaurant business in Le Mars for many years, and Mr. Donlin died nine years ago. On August 29, 1919 she was married to Jeff Ellsworth of Remsen, the marriage taking place in Omaha. Since then the couple have lived on a farm in Fredonia township.
Mrs. Ellsworth was a good Christian woman, and was highly popular among her many friends. Her early death is regretted exceedingly by all who knew her, and is a severe blow to her husband and her large family of sisters and brothers. Besides her husband she is survived by the following sisters and brothers: Mrs. C.E. Holley, of Minneapolis; Mrs. E. Ballard, of Minneapolis; Mrs. James Neff, of Windmere, N. D.; Mrs. August Thompson, of Seattle; Mrs. Tom Dutnall, of California; Mrs. Mabel Gordon, of Poeatello, Oregon; Mrs. Fred Hoffman, of Sioux Falls, S.D.; Frank Kimbel, Kearny, Nebr. James Kimbel, Sibley; Bert Kimbel, Minneapolis; Ned Kimbel, Le Mars; John Kimbel, Owen, Wis., and Herman Kimbel, of Canada.
The body of Mrs. Ellsworth was brought to Remsen Tuesday evening and was taken to the home in Fredonia township. The funeral will be held Friday afternoon at 2 o’clock with services at the home and at St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran church, conducted by Rev. A. H. Juergens. – Remsen Bell Enterprise, May 11, 1922, page 1, column 5
