Robert P. Trefren
Robert F. Trefren, 87. of Akron, Iowa, died Monday, May 5. 1997, at the Akron Care Center following a brief illness.
Services were held Wednesday, May 7. 1997, at First Baptist Church, Akron, Iowa, with the Rev. Fred Penner officiating. Music was "In The Garden" and "Beyond The Sunset" sung by Bob Brown, accompanied by Marietta Nielsen on the organ. Burial was in Riverside Cemetery, Akron, Iowa, with Military Graveside Rites by Elk Point VFW Post #915. Schroeder Funeral Home, Akron, Iowa, was in charge of arrangements.
Casketbearers were Jerry Hitzemann, Barney Swift, Garry Klemme, Larry Schumacher, Dean Weyen and Bob Popken.
Mr. Trefren was born June 1, 1909, in Madison, Nebraska, the son of Frartk and Alfreda (Barr) Trefren. He attended school in Hartington, Nebraska. He was a veteran of WWII serving in the U.S. Army Air Corps from May 28, 1942 to October 20, 1945.
He married Mary Kathryn Rosenbaum July 3, 1945 in Madison County', Nebraska. Mr. Trefren worked for many farmers, performing odd jobs. He also worked for the Akron Creamery for ten years and K.D. Feed for 13 years before retiring in 1973. Robert was a member of the Elk Point VFW Post #915 and First Baptist Church of Akron. He was an avid Atlanta Braves baseball fan.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Kathryn of .Akron; one daughter and her husband, Sandy and Dave Nelson of Sioux City, Iowa; one granddaughter, Christy Lee Clark of Florence, Oregon; and two great grandsons, Austin Main Reynolds and Kenneth Edward Clark, both of Florence.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Paulette Richters; and one grandson, Corey Michael Blake.
