Funeral services were held for Mrs. Ethel Thorson, age 90, on Thursday afternoon, March 1, at the Schroeder Funeral Chapel in Akron. Rev. Ralph Burdette officiated and burial was in Riverside Cemetery. Casket bearers were grandsons and nephews of the deceased, Marc Thorson, Mason Thorson, Gordon E.Gadd, Calvin Gadd, Robert Gadd and Burton Benna. Mrs. Thorson died at the Akron Hospital, February 26, after a long illness.
Ethel Thorson, the former Ethel Gadd, was born March 23,1882, at Clinton, Iowa. As a small child she moved with her parents to a homestead in Hyde County, S.D. In 1906 she came to Akron where she taught school until her marriage to Edwin 0. Thorson on June 10, 1910 at Highmore, S.D. She and her husband, a pharmacist, operated the Thorson Drug Store in Akron, and after his death in 1938, she continued to operate the store with her son Mac. Mrs. Thorson retired from business several years ago. She was a past worthy matron of the Order of Eastern Star in Akron and a former member of P.E.O.
Survivors are a son Mac Donald, a daughter, Mrs. C. R. (Naomi) Mason; grandchildren, Mrs. H. G. (Sue Ann) Wilms of Burtonsville, Md., Mrs. Burton (Marcia) Benna of Ames, Iowa, Marc, Melinda, Martha, Mason and Mary Joyce Thorson all of Akron; five great-grandchildren and a sister, Mrs. Candace Henson, of Des Moines, la.
