Von Hagel, Albert 1898 - 1971

Funeral services were held Monday afternoon, March 1 for Albert Von Hagel, age 72, at the Trinity Lutheran Church, Rev. Durwood Clauson, officiating. Burial was in the Riverside Cemetery under the direction of the Schroeder Funeral Home. Pall bearers were: Arnold Hitzemann, George Hitzemann, Arden Hitzemann, Robert Hitzemann, Marvin Hitzemann and Melvin Hitzemann. A prayer service was held Sunday afternoon, February 28, at the funeral home. Mr. Von Hagel died Friday, February 26 at the Akron hospital, after a long illness.

Albert Von Hagel was born November 4, 1898 in Union County, S. Dak. to Albert and Lena Von Hagel, moving to Akron with his parents when an infant. He attended the Akron Public School and was baptized and confirmed in Trinity Lutheran Church. On May 12, 1920 he married Minnie Hitzemann. They observed their Golden Wedding anniversary last year (1970) in May. Mr. Von Hagel in years past was an employee of the town of Akron as Marshal, in the light plant and served many years as street commissioner. He also was a member of the Akron Fire Department. He was known to his many friends as "Dukes".

Survivors are his widow; sons, Wayne of Akron, Paul and Eldon of Sioux City; brothers, Gert, John and George of Akron; sisters, Mrs. Matie Hitzemann and Mrs. Anna Long, both of Akron; 10 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. One son, Donald, preceded him in death in 1937.
