George W. Johnson, age 78, former Akron resident and long-time Sioux City druggist, died Wednesday, August 5, at a Sioux City hospital, after a long illness.
He was born January 20, 1892, at Mt. Olive, m. He moved to Akron, Iowa, with his parents as a child. For 22 years he operated the Johnson Drug Store in Sioux City. He sold the business in 1948. A veteran of World War I, Mr. Johnson belonged to the Akron Masonic Lodge and last year received his 50-year pin. He received his 50 year druggist's certificate in 1966.
Survivors include three foster children: Barry R. Swift and Bert N. Swift, both of Sioux City, and Mrs. Gerald (Cathy Sue) Harwood of Seattle, Wash., and a brother, J. J. Johnson of Denver, Colo.
A memorial has been established in Mr. Johnson's name for the Shrine Crippled Children's Hospital in Minneapolis, Minn..
