Helen Jaminet, 94, of Remsen, died Saturday, Jan. 8, 2011, at Happy Siesta Health Care Center in Remsen.

Helen was born June 16, 1916, at rural Remsen, the daughter of Jim and Mollie (Kennedy) Arens. She was raised in the Remsen area. She received her education at St. Mary's Catholic School in Remsen, graduating in 1934.

On June 29, 1942, she married Edward Jaminet at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Remsen. The couple made their home in Remsen. Ed died Nov. 25, 1961. After Ed died, Helen worked at the Oyens Locker, Remsen Greenhouse and Remsen Variety Stores.

She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Church Guild, church prayer chain and Catholic Daughters Of America. She enjoyed various card clubs, bingo and casino trips.

Survivors include her five children, Dan Jaminet and his special friend, Sue Tritz of Remsen, Dave Jaminet of Remsen and his special friend, Louise Tadlock of Sioux City, Paul Jaminet, Carol (Jerry) Braun, and Rose (Don) Majeres, all of Remsen; five grandchildren, Beth (Eric) Gengler, Jill Majeres and her special friend, Josh Leners, Natalie (Jeremy) Eldred, Courtney (Josh) Hill and Tiffany (Steve) Konz; five great-grandsons, Ross Gengler, Eli and Ean Eldred, Mason Hill and Brek Konz; two great-granddaughters, Beca Gengler and Eko Eldred; four sisters, Mary C. Loutsch of Remsen, Esther Konz of Alton, Doris Wurth of Remsen and Jane (Leander) Konz of Remsen; one brother-in-law, Laverne (Shirley) Jaminet; seven sisters-in-law, Doris Arens of Remsen, Mary Ann Arens of Le Mars, Florence Lathrum of Mesa, Ariz., Mary Hagey of Marcus, Phyllis Jaminet of Cherokee and Joan Schroeder of Remsen.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Valeria and her husband, Laurence Alesch and Phyllis and her husband, Stanley Englert; three brothers, Os Arens, Ken and his wife, Elvira Arens and Jim Arens; eight brothers-in-law, Gene Loutsch, Leonard Konz, Lou Wurth, Ray and his wife, Martha Jaminet, Francis and Harold Jaminet, Andy Lathrum, Bob Deegan, Lorne and his wife, Marion Jaminet; and one sister-in-law, Rose and her husband, Andy Schmitz.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Remsen with the Rev. William McCarthy officiating. Burial will be in the St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery in Remsen. Friends may call anytime after 2 p.m. today (Monday). There will be a parish rosary at 3 p.m. and a vigil prayer service at 7:30 p.m., all at the Fisch Funeral Home & Monument in Remsen.

Casketbearers will be Eric Gengler, Jeremy Eldred, Josh Hill, Steve Konz, Josh Leners and Tom Jaminet.

Honorary bearers will be LaVerne Jaminet, Bob Alesch, Larry and Mike Arens.

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be directed to either Hospice of Siouxland, American Heart Association, American Cancer Society, or American Diabetes Association.
