Final Rites Held For Jane Hawkins
Early Settler In Elgin Township

Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at the Seney Methodist church for Mrs. Jane Hawkins, 87, who died Sunday at her home in Elgin township. The services were conducted by Rev. B. M. Watson of Fort Dodge and Rev. J. E. Lombard, pastor of the Seney church. Interment was made in the Seney cemetery. The arrangements were in charge of the Mauer funeral home of LeMars.

Friends attending the funeral fiom a distance were Mr. and Mrs. B. F.Potter, Mr, and Mrs. James L. Potter, Robert and Peter Moir, all of Mitchell, S. D., Mrs. Martha Haney of Minneapolis, Minn., Mr. and Mrs, Merle Simmons of Ireton and Mr. and Mrs. Dewey McMullen of Sioux City.

Jane Moir, eldest daughter of Alexander and Jessie Moir, was born near Hensall, Ontario, Canada, on February 6, 1857, and passed away on September 3, 1944.

She was married to Richard Hawkins of Exeter, Ontario, Canada, December 27, 1878. They lived there on a farm till 1889 when they moved to a farm north of Seney where they resided 25 years, moving to Seney in 1915, where she lived until 1935 and has since made her home with her children.

To this union were born five children, who are; Mrs. B. F. Potter of Mitchell, S. D., Mrs. Martha Haney of Minneapolis, Minn,, Wm. G. and Albert T. of this vicinity. Her husband and one son, R. A. Hawkins, preceded her in death. She leaves to mourn her death these four children, fourteen grandchildren and six great-grandchildren, one sister, Mrs. Agnes Van Wechel of Fergus Falls, Minn., and five brothers, Russell Moir of LeMars, Robert and Peter of Mitchell, S. D., Thomas of Groton and Andrew of Andover, S. D.

She was a loving wife, a kind and devoted mother and,a loyal friend and neighbor.
