Mrs. P.N. Hansen, Early Settler, Taken By Death. Word was received in Remsen, Saturday, of the death of Mrs. P. N. Hansen, pioneer resident of Sioux and Plymouth counties and a resident of this community for fifty years, who passed away Saturday at the home of her son, George, in Hemet, Calif. She was 87 years old. The body will be held in California for several weeks and will be brought to Remsen for burial.
Mrs. Hansen, nee Christina Marie Petersen, was born May 10, 1848, in Stolck, Schleswig, Germany and came to the United States in the spring of 1875, locating in Benton county, Iowa. In September of the same year she was united in marriage to Peter Nicholas Hansen, a resident of Benton county, and the couple settled on a farm there. In the spring of 1883 they moved to a farm in Sioux county, locating ten miles northeast of Remsen, where they labored and prospered until May 1, 1907, when they retired and came to Remsen.
The surviving children are: George, of Hemet, and August W.., of Remsen. There is one brother, Peter Petersen living in Idaho. – Le Mars Semi-Weekly Sentinel, April 28, 1936, page 1.
