The announcement of the death of Mrs. Samuel Wentz which occurred Tuesday evening about eleven o’clock brought a gloom of sorrow to our entire city. Mrs. Wentz (Rosa Schugart) was a native of New York, having been born at Rochester, February 3, 1851. When but a small girl, she with her parents moved to Iowa city where they remained for a brief period, after which they moved to Belle Plaine, Iowa. At this place in 1871 she was united in marriage to Mr. Wentz. Mr. and Mrs. Wentz resided in Benton county until 1881 when he moved to Remsen and has since resided here. She was the mother of nine children, two of whom survive her, Frank Wentz and Emma Wentz. The funeral occurred on Thursday and was largely attended. – Le Mars Semi-Weekly Sentinel, Sept. 12, 1898, page 4.
