Mrs. Emma Schut, wife of W. J. Schut, died at St. Joseph’s hospital in Sioux City on Thursday. Mrs. Schut has been ailing since she gave birth to a child two months ago from blood poisoning. She contracted pneumonia and four weeks ago she was taken to St. Joseph’s hospital that the best care might be given her, but as the days and nights went by hope was sinking and the end was a deliverer from cruel suffering. Mrs. Schut was the daughter of the late Gerrit Moritz and his surviving widow who resides, in Remsen. She was born in Illinois on the first day of September, 1875, and came to Meadow township with her parents when quite young. In 1895 she became the wife of W. J. Schut, who with eight children, the oldest but 14 years old, mourns deeply the loss of the kind and loving wife and mother. The body of the deceased was brought to Remsen on Friday and laid out in the Remsen residence of Mrs. Moritz until taken to her last resting place in the Remsen cemetery on Sunday afternoon, December 5th. Rev. Birkner performing the funeral rites. - Le Mars Semi-Weekly Sentinel, Dec. 14, 1909, page 2.
