George Richards, One Of Early English Settlers, Died Tuesday
George Richards, one of the last of the early English settlers who came to Le Mars in the early 80's, died Tuesday at his home on Central Avenue after a few days illness.
Mr. Richards was born in Andover, England, August 10, 1862, and came to Le Mars when he arrived from that country at the age of 19 years. In those days scores of young Englishmen were coming to this county to study farming the American way and Mr. Richards purchased a farm in Preston township which he owned at the time of his death.
In 1892 Mr. Richards was married to Exie Eastman who died a number of years ago. A daughter, Miss Ada, is the only survivor.
Funeral services were held at 10 a. m. Wednesday at St. George's Episcopal church with Rev. F. B. Shaner of Sioux City officiating and burial was in the Le Mars cemetery.
