Friederich Holm died at ten o’clock a.m. December 5th, in a hospital in Sioux City after a painful operation had been performed on him. The remains were brought to his home in Remsen, Saturday. Friederich Holm was born in Heide, Norder Dittmarschen, Schleswig Holstein, Germany, on the 8th day of July, 1837 [1838?]. He came to the United States in 1886 and settled in Benton county, Iowa, where he married Katherine Holck. Their union was blessed with eleven children, of whom seven survive with their mother to mourn their irreparable loss. In 1881 the family moved to Cherokee county and in 1883 again to O’Brien county, Iowa. Mr. Holm was successful as a farmer, and in 1892 came with his family to Remsen to live a life or rest. – Le Mars Semi-Weekly Sentinel, Dec. 15, 1908, page 8.
