Walter Aird, 93 Pioneer family member, succumbs

Walter (W.C.) Aird, 93, lifelong LeMars resident, died Sunday (Jan. 5,1974) at the Abbey in LeMars after a long illness.

Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Presbyterian United Church of Christ, with Rev. Ralph Nelson officiating.

There will be a Masonic service Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. at the Mauer Funeral Home.

Burial will be in Rest Haven Memory Gardens near LeMars.

Mr. Aird was born June 17, 1881, on a farm in Marion township and lived there for 85 years until he retired and moved to LeMars. His parents were John and Mary Cameron Aird.

On the occasion of his 90th birthday he received a special card for President Nixon.

In recent years he spent the winters with a daughter, Alice, in Albuquerque and the remainder of the year with a daughter and her husband, Mr. and Mrs. E. J. Lloyd at Potomac, MD.

His marriage to Iola Pearle Clarke took place March 4, 1908, in LeMars. She preceded him in death.

The Aird farm has been in the family for 100 years in 1971.

Mr. Aird was a long time member of the Masonic Lodge and the oldest member of the Presbyterian United Church of Christ.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, two brothers and two sisters.

Survivors are two daughters, Alice of Albuquerque and Mrs. E. J. (Margaret) Lloyd of Potomac, MD., two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
