Funeral services for lifetime Remsen resident August Erichsen, 89, were held Monday, Sept. 5, at Christ Lutheran church, Remsen. He died at the Happy Siesta nursing home after a long illness.
Rev. Allen Brutlag officiated at the services and burial was in the Remsen cemetery. Pall bearers were Elmer Erichsen, Elmer Maass, August Nitzschke, Lester Nitzschke, Richard Nitzschke and Vernon Grauer.
Mr. Erichsen was a church elder and trustee at Christ Lutheran church in Remsen, a member of the board of directors of First Trust & Savings bank of Remsen, a trustee of Remsen township and served on the election board.
He was married to Ida Nitzschke Feb. 23, 1911, at Marcus. The couple farmed all their lives. They retired in 1947 and Mrs. Erichsen preceded him in death in 1962.
Surviving are three sons, Walter, Arnold and George, all of Remsen; a daughter, Mrs. William (Hilda) Henrich; two sisters, Mrs. Edward (Alvina) Nitzschke and Mrs. Frank (Marie) Maass, both of Remsen; six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. – Le Mars Daily Sentinel, Sept 13, 1977, page 3.

Note: August Peter Erichsen was born February 26, 1888 in Remsen Township, the son of Detlef and Catherine (Jacobsen) Erichsen.
