Died Monday Night....Lived in the County for 66 YearsMalcom Frederick Brodie, one of the English colony which came to LeMars
sixty years ago, died July 21, in Sacred Heart hospital, where he had been a
patient the past three months.
[My Grandmother wrote in pen the year 1947 on this obituary.]Mr. Brodie was born February 10, 1861, in Eastbourne, England, the son of
Wm. and Jane Moore Brodie and came to Plymouth county when he was 20 years
old. He lived on a farm near Crathorne until he moved to LeMars. On July
21, 1885, he was married to Margaret Ross, who with one daughter, Helen May
King, and two sons, John and Colin preceded him in death.Mr. Brodie is survived by five sons, Charles of Merrill, Stewart of
Mapleton, Ronald of Alhambra, California, Robert of Akron, and William of
LeMars. There are 16 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. A brother,
Stewart, and a sister, Mrs. Grace Heisch, live in Eastbourne, England, and
another sister, Mrs. Edith Davidson lives in the Isle of Wight.Mr. Brodie has been in failing health since the death of his wife in March
1945. As long as his health permitted he was an active worker in the
Presbyterian church of which he was a lifelong member.
