AXEL PETERSEN DIES

Axel Petersen of Oyens died Wednesday night at Sacred Heart hospital. The body was taken to Moeller funeral home, Remsen. Funeral services tentatively have been scheduled Saturday. – Le Mars Daily Sentinel, Dec. 13, 1962, page 7.

Axel Petersen, 81, a resident of Oyens passed away at the Sacred Heart hospital, Wednesday evening December 12 following several years of failing health.

Mr. Petersen was born in Denmark and came to this country as a young boy. He was united in marriage to Herlig Kloster. They farmed in the Fredonia township vicinity for several years when they moved to Chicago. They later returned to Oyens where they have since resided.

Funeral services have been set tentatively for Saturday December 15 at Gethsemane Lutheran church at Oyens under direction, of the Moeller funeral Home at Remsen. Burial will be in the Remsen cemetery. Rev. Peterson of Marcus will officiate at last rites.

Survivors include his widow; a son, Commander Woodrow Petersen of Washington D.C.; daughters Mrs. Willard (Irene) Schmidt of Ridgefield, Washington; and Mrs. Stanley (Blanche) Mohning of Le Mars; three sisters and some brothers in Denmark.
From the funeral bulletin, pall bearers included Nis Kloster, Niels Kloster, Elmer Nielsen, James Peterson, Alvin Peterson and Russell Andersen.

AXEL PETERSEN, 77, FUNERAL SERVICE SET SATURDAY AT OYENS

Funeral services for Axel E. Petersen, 77, an Oyens resident who died Wednesday night at Sacred Heart hospital, where he had been a patient one week, will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Gethsemane Lutheran church at Oyens.
Rev. Delpho Peterson will officiate. Burial will be in the Remsen city cemetery under direction of the Moeller funeral home of Remsen.
Mr. Petersen was born Dec. 15, 1884, at Fredericksberg, Denmark. He came to the United State in 1906 and farmed near Oyens for 36 years before going to Hazel Crest, Ill. About two years ago he returned to Oyens.
He married Herlig Kloster Feb. 20, 1912, at Oyens.
Survivors besides the widow are a son, Woodrow, who is a commander in the navy stationed at Washington, D.C.; two daughters, Mrs. Willard Schmidt of Ridgefield, Wash., and Mrs. Stanley Mohning of Le Mars, and seven grandchildren. – Le Mars Daily Sentinel, December 14, 1962, page 4.
