Michael P. Mullally was born November 5, 1940 in Le Mars, Iowa, the son of Michael J. and Marie A. (Hames) Mullally. He grew up in Le Mars and received his education at Le Mars Central High School. Mike married Judith Beck on June 3, 1961 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church – Neptune, rural Hinton, IA. Following their marriage Mike worked with his father’s business, M & M Produce, and later moved to California. In California, Mike started up a Lally’s Restaurant in Temple City, and several years later he opened Lally’s Drive Inn in Atlantic, IA. In the early 1970’s, Mike and Judy returned to Le Mars and took over the family business of Lally’s Eastside Restaurant, which he operated with the family for many years. He also developed some of his own recipes for salad dressings and barbecue sauces that he marketed under the brand name, Lally’s Foods. Mike was a member of St. James Catholic Church.

“Mike Mullally, we remember him best with the scent of fried chicken wafting off his blue button down shirt and suspenders. Blessed with an enormous family and an even bigger heart. He did Elvis impersonations to make his high school sweetheart laugh. Mike’s infinite love made everyone feel welcome. In sticky situations he’d be the first to crack a joke to lighten the mood. We remember Mike Mullally’s heartfelt praise, he was so proud of his family and all that we have become. It has come full circle because now we are the proud ones, remembering the honest and incredible life Mike led. How lucky we are to have had him in our lives.”
