Dick Asseln

Dick Asseln, 85, Le Mars, longtime area resident and retired farmer, died Saturday (Dec. 29,1979) at Floyd Valley Hospital, Le Mars after a 2-day illness.

Services were held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at St. John's American Lutheran Church at Craig. The Rev. William Gregerson officiated with burial in the parish cemetery at Craig.

Mr. Asseln was born Sept. 21,1894 at Hallam, Neb., to Mr. and Mrs. Dietrich Asseln, coming to Plymouth County as a young man. After his marriage in Dec. 1916 in Grant township to Katherine Ommen, he farmed here. They moved back to Nebraska in 1925 where he farmed until retiring to Plymouth County in 1937. He farmed until moving to Craig in 1947 where he retired. He moved to Le Mars in 1949. Mr. Asseln was a member of St. John's American Lutheran Church, Craig.

Survivors are his wife Katherine; a son, Elmer, Craig; three daughters, Mrs. Lorene Harms and Mrs. Kenneth (Kathleen) Cronin, Le Mars and Mrs. Raymond (Shirley) Ludwig, Milford; 12 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; one brother and five sisters.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a son Marvin in 1977 and a brother and four sisters.
