2-22-1924Funeral services were held in the Methodist church at Kingsley, Monday afternoon, for R. B. Twogood, pioneer resident of northwestern Iowa. Rev. F. C. Taylor, of Sioux City, conducting the services. The I.O.O.F of which Mr. Twogood was a member for many years held ritualistic services at the church after the sermon, and the American Legion had charge of the services at the grave where the remains were laid to rest with military honors. The Kingsley Times has the following sketch of his life:
Rinaldo B. Twogood, son of Sydney and Olive Twogood, was born in Rockford, Ill., April 18, 1846. At the age of 16 years, shortly after the beginning of the Civil war, he enlisted in Company A, Sixty seventh Illinois infantry, serving his term of enlistment and reenlisted in Company L, eleventh Illinois cavalry and served until the close of the war.During the time of his second enlistment his parents moved from Rockford, Ill. to Anamosa, Iowa. Here, on July 4, 1864 while home on furlough, he met Mantie Graham and after a courtship of four years, they were united in marriage on October 29, 1868, Rev. Fausset pastor of the M.E. Church of Anamosa, performing the ceremony.
In March 1869, they came to Woodbury county Iowa settling on a homestead in Wolf Creek township, later moving to a farm seven miles south of Kingsley. Here they lived about thirty-seven years, coming to the town of Kingsley eighteen years ago.
To Mr. and Mrs. Twogood were born thirteen children; twelve grew to manhood and womanhood; ten are now living and all were present except one daughter. David Twogood, Sioux City, Iowa; Oscar Twogood of Kingsley, Florence Bacon and Grace Bacon of Randolph, Neb.;Mrs. Genevieve Blewitt, Raymond, S.D., Mrs. Dott Watson, Sibley, Iowa; Mrs. Rachel Hokes, Windom, Minn.;Mrs. Anna Leinbauch of Lawton, Mrs. Lova Leinbauch of Moville; and Mrs. Bessie Berry, Vancouver, Wash.
Besides these children, he leaves his second wife, Mrs. Sarah McCord Twogood, twenty eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He leaves also two sisters, Mrs. Helen Van Patten, of Cedar Rapids, Ia, and Mrs. F.E. Brown, of Webster City, Iowa.
The first Mrs. Twogood passed away on November 7, 1919, and Mr. Twogood later married Mrs. Sarah McCord who survives him and has been most devoted and attentive to him during his last illness.
During his long residence in Woodbury county he served as Justice of the peace and after coming to Kingsley was elected to a like office, which he filled with great credit, administering justice till a short time before his death.
