PIONEER DIES AT CHEROKEE
C. M. SCHUTT OF THIS PLACE DIES
IN HOSPITAL
Was a Well Known Character in Le Mars
for Many Years, but Has Lived in
South Dakota for the Past Two Years
at Castlewood.

Christopher Martin Schutt, a long time resident of Plymouth county, died at the state hospital in Cherokee on Friday morning, the cause of his death being ascribed as cerebral hemorrhage.
Mr. Schutt had been in feeble health of late years and was taken to the hospital in Cherokee in October of last year. Mr. Schutt was an old resident here, having come to LeMars about twenty-eight years ago. He conducted a farm in Washington township for twenty-five years and about three years ago retired and came to LeMars taking up his residence on Cedar street.

Christopher Schutt was a native of Germany, where he was born seventy two years ago and spent his boyhood days there, emigrating to America when a youth. He first settled in New York state, where he engaged in farming. He was united in marriage at Dunkard, N. Y., on October 18,. 1863 with Miss Elizabeth Marie Anna Kaper, who preceded him in death on December 7 of last year. The family moved later to Michigan and then to Iowa, where they lived near Webster City, and then came to Plymouth county, which has been their home since.

The deceased leaves a large number of sons and daughters to mourn his death. They are Albert and Chas. H., of Fairmont, N . D. ; Edward, of Harrisburg, S D ; Luella M. Clausen, of Colorado Springs Colo. ; Otis, of Carrington, N . D .; Emma R. Griffiith, of Clifton, Colo ; Frank K., of Langdon, N. D.; Ernest, of Washington township, and Mrs. Clara J . Smith, of this city.

The funeral was held Sunday afternoon at the German M. E. church of this city, Rev. F. H. Thiel officiating.

Mr. Schutt was a soldier i n the Civil war, serving in a Michigan regiment, and members of Mower Post G. A. R attended the funeral in a body.
