FORMER AKRON RESIDENT CALLED TO FINAL REWARD
Last rites for A. D. Lyons Were Held Here Monday Afternoon

A. D., Lyons, a former resident of Akron and vicinity for many years, died Saturday noon, March 6, 1937, in his home at Richland, S. D., from ailments incident to advanced age. He would have attained the age of 81 years the day following his death, and had been in failing health the past
three years.

Alphian David Lyons was born March 7, 1856, netr Waukesha, Wis., and moved, while a boy, to Pierce county, Wisconsin, with his parents. With his family, Mr. Lyons moved to a farm near Sioux City, Iowa, in 1886 and to Hurley, S. D., in 1888. He located with his family at Akron, Iowa,
in 1890, and they later moved to Sanborn county, Wisconsin, returning to South Dakota seventeen years ago.

Mr. Lyons had lived continuously at Richland, where he conducted a general store. He is survived by his wife [Sarah Strong Tucker]; one son, Gilbert L., of Sioux City; two
daughters, Mrs. Blanche Erickson, of Richland, and Mrs. Ruth McCorkell, of Westfield, Iowa; one brother, J. E., of Sioux City; five stepchildren, 17 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
One son, Thelbert, of Sioux City, preceded him in death about three years ago. Mr. Lyons was a
man of sterling character and integrity, a kind and devoted husband and father, a valued and esteemed neighor and friend, whose passing will be mourned by all who knew him.

Funeral services were held Monday at 2 p. m. in the Akron M. E. church, conducted by Rev. Frank Whitney, pastor of the Elk Point M. E. church, who supplies the Richland M.E. church.
Two vocal duets were sung by Mary and Eunice Burket, of Akron, with Mrs. Max Pollock as accompanist. Six grandchildren acted as pall bearers Earl Lyons, Billy Lyons, Vernon Lias, Hiram Lias, Leonard McCorkell and Clifford Erickson. Interment was in Riverside cemetery.

[His first wife was Therrissey Jane Bennett who died in May 1894.]
