3-19-1901Death of H. L. Hoyt
H. L. [Hazen] Hoyt, one of the oldest settlers of Plymouth county, and prominent citizen of LeMars, died Saturday afternoon at Seattle, Washington. His remains arrived in LeMars yesterday for burial.
A few weeks ago he left for the Western coast, in the vain hope hope that the change of climate might benefit his health, which was in a very precarious condition. He had been suffering for a long time from Bright’s disease, and had a lung trouble as well.
Mr. Hoyt was formerly one of the wealthiest farmers of this county, and made his home in LeMars in 1884. It was he who caused the opera house on Sixth street to be built .
Later in life he had some reverses, and he was a comparatively poor man when he died.
His widow is at present residing at Grinnell, Iowa, where her children are being educated.
