Allen Harrod, an aged and esteemed citizen of this place, died at his home here last Friday, November 8th, of paralysis. He had been ill but little over a week. During the first few days of his illness, hopes were held for is recovery, but owing to his advanced age, he was unable to withstand the suffering, and early on the morning of the above named date passed away at the ripe old age of 72 years, 2 months and 14 days.
Mr. Harrod was born near Mt. Vernon, Ohio, on August 24, 1840. He resided there until 21 years old, when he came west to Black Hawk county, Iowa, settling near Waterloo. In 1888 he removed to Woodbury county and settled on a farm; near this place, where he resided until four years ago, when he moved with family to town.
On January 4, 1889, he was united in marriage to Miss Helen Thomas, of this place. To this, union were born three children, two of whom with the mother survive to mourn the untimely death of a kind husband and father. They are Stanley M. and Laura B. One died in infancy. Besides the wife and children, three sisters, Mrs. Henry Rolfe, of Miltonville, Kansas; Mrs. Jas. Winsett, of Brookfield, Ill.; and Mrs. Geo. Faulkner, of Waterloo, survive him.
Mr. Harrod was very successful in financial matters, owing largely to his industrious and careful habits. He was honest and upright in all his dealings and always gave his own business strict attention. He was vice-president of the Farmers National Bank of this place.
The funeral services were held at the Congregational church last Sunday afternoon at 12:30 o'clock, Rev. Jos. Steele having charge. Interment was made in the Kingsley cemetery.
