Robert Louis Harter
(August 8, 1936 - April 4, 2010)

Huron, South Dakota – Robert L. Harter, 73, of Huron, South Dakota passed away on Sunday, April 4, 2010 while visiting his son Brad in Le Mars, Iowa.

His Funeral Mass will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, April 7, 2010, at Holy Trinity Catholic Parish in Huron with burial at St. Martin Cemetery, Huron.

Visitation with the family will be from 5-7 p.m. on Tuesday April 6, at Welter Funeral Home, with a prayer service to begin at 6:30 p.m.; or one hour prior to the Service at the church on Wednesday.

Robert Louis Harter, the son of Louis and Esther (Anderson) Harter, was born on August 8, 1936, in Pierre, SD. He attended schools in the Pierre area and graduated from Pierre High School. Robert married Mary J. Campbell on August 29, 1955, in Agar, SD. He has lived in Huron for over 40 years. Robert worked as a District Highway Engineer for the South Dakota Department of Transportation for several years.

Robert was a member of St. Martin Catholic Church and Holy Trinity Catholic Parish of Huron. Robert had been a member of the South Dakota National Guard for over 30 years retiring with the rank of Lt. Colonel.

Grateful for having shared in his life are his 4 children: Brian Harter of Huron, SD, Bradley Harter of LeMars, IA, Beth Albright of Fort Dodge, IA, and Bret Harter of Huron, SD; 4 grandchildren: Christa Harter, Allison and Benjamin Allbright, and Curtis Brown; brother, Ed (Geri) Harter of Oregon; 3 sisters, Marlene Stewart of Pierre, SD, Delores Rendallman of Arizona, and Jannette White of California; and several nieces and nephews.

Robert was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Joan in 1995; and his sister, Kay Fuller.
