Lillian June, 92, of Merrill, died Monday Feb. 7, 2011 at Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City, following a brief illness.

The former Lillian A. Johnson was born Oct. 12, 1918, at Sisseton, S.D., the daughter of William and Jenny (Groeneweg) Johnson. She grew up in Corona, S.D., where she graduated from high school.

Lillian married Melvin A. June on Jan. 29, 1939, at Millbank, S.D. Following their marriage the couple made their home in Merrill, where Lillian raised their seven children. Her husband Melvin died in 2002.

Lillian was a member of the Rock Solid Assembly, formerly the Le Mars Assembly of God Church, where she has been the pianist for many years. She loved music and enjoyed the outdoors and activities such as fishing, camping and going on picnics.

Survivors include six children, Allen June and his wife, Shirley of Ashland, Mo., Kenneth June of Merrill, Ron June of Merrill, Darlene Pieper and her husband, Dennis of Sioux Center, Rodney June of Boyden, and Denis June and his wife, Rose of Alden; 23 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Inez Unzicker of Ortonville, Minn.; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Melvin; a daughter. Sharon Dorhout; and a sister, Elsie Roos.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday February 10, 2011 at the Rock Solid Assembly, (126 Third Ave. S.W., Le Mars), with Pastor Dan Krause officiating. Burial will be in Hillside Cemetery in Merrill. Visitations will begin at 3 p.m. Wednesday at the Carlsen-Feuerstein Funeral Home in Le Mars, where there will be a prayer service at 7 p.m. The family will be present to greet friends from 6-8 p.m. Visitation will resume Thursday morning at the church for one hour prior to the funeral.
