Pierson, Iowa – Wesley Duane Bierman, 81, of Pierson, Iowa passed away on Saturday, September 2, 2007 at his home in Pierson. Funeral services will take place at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 5, 2007 at the Kingsley United Methodist Church. Rev. Roger Kurtenbach will officiate. Burial will follow at the Kingsley Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday at the Kingsley United Methodist Church. The family will be present from 6-8 p.m. with a prayer service scheduled for 7:30 p.m. There will also be one hour of visitation at the church prior to the funeral.

Wesley was born on December 19, 1925 in Cherokee County to George and Marie (Klingbeil) Bierman. He attended Grand Meadow School and graduated in 1943. Following graduation, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy. He served on the USS West Virginia and was in seven major battles in the South Pacific. He was at Tokyo Bay for the signing of the Japanese surrender and was there when they raised the flag at Iwo Jima.

On December 20th, 1951 he married Marian Case, the daughter of George and Alma Case, at the United Methodist Church in Pierson, Iowa. He farmed in the Grand Meadow area for 25 years. While farming he became an electrician. In 1977, he moved from the farm to Pierson, Iowa and was a self-employed electrician until he retired in 1988.

He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Kingsley, Iowa and the American Legion. He enjoyed spending time with his family and traveled, when he was able, to see his grandchildren’s activities. He also enjoyed woodworking, camping and fishing. You could find Wes socializing and having coffee with friends up to the time of his death.

He will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Marian, of Pierson; two daughters and their husbands, June and Bill Fox of Traverse City, MI and Joli and Mark Gehring of Ponca, NE; four grandchildren, Mike and Nick Fox and Ben and Anthony Gehring; a sister-in-law, Evelyn Bierman of Holstein, Iowa; a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Arlie and Aileen Grage of Marcus, Iowa and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Donnie Bierman; a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Edwin and Maxine Ludwig; and a nephew, Guy Ludwig.
