Mrs. Onno Johnson

Funeral services for Mrs. Onno Johnson (Louise) Johnson, 93, of Hawarden were held Friday, January 24, 1975 at 1:30 p. m. in Trinity Lutheran Church with Rev. Arthur Anacker officiating. She passed away early Wednesday morning January 22, 1975 at the home of her daughter Mrs. O.H. Klave. Casket bearers were Don Dowdey, Ed Harskamp, Doug Twedt, Larry Watkins, Harlan Klave and Howard
Schoellerman. Mrs. Wm. Hill organist accompanied Verle Marineau as he sang "I Am But a Stranger Here" and "Abide With Me." Burial services were held at Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Ireton.

Louise Caroline Leeker was born in Hannover, Germany April 28,1881 to Herman and Lena Leeker. She was one of ten children She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith in Germany and came to America as a young girl with her aunt and lived in the Ireton vicinity. September 5,1903 she was united in marriage to Onno R. Johnson, also of Ireton, and they farmed nearby until 1910 when they moved to their farm northeast of Hawarden. They had 3 sons and one daughter. After her husbands death in 1919 she continued to farm until 1928 when she moved to Hawarden. Although a semi invalid for nearly twenty years, she lived alone until two and one half years ago when she had her first stroke. Since then she has made her home with her daughter and husband. She was widely known for her beautiful crochet work and her handiwork has been sent to many states and several foreign countries. She was preceded in death by her husband Onno, son Henry and her brothers and sisters.

She is survived by her sons Onno H. of rural Le Mars and Elmer (Bud) of Hawarden, her daughter Mrs. O.H. (Lillian) Klave of Hawarden, four grand children, one foster grandson, thirteen great grandchildren and one great-great-grand daughter.

At the time of her death she was the oldest member of Trinity Lutheran Congregation.
