Vance Allen Reece, 51, of Hawarden, died Thursday, Jan. 27, 2011, at his home.

Vance Allen Reece was born April 7, 1959, in Los Angeles, Calif., the son of Harold and Dorothy (Christensen) Reece. He lived most of his life in Rosemead, Calif., and graduated from high school there. He worked in fork lift maintenance and refrigeration. He moved to Hawarden in 1990.

Vance married Shelly Boyles on July 24, 2010.

He was employed at Heyl Trucking, Wells' Dairy, Inc. (Blue Bunny) for 15 years, Advance Brands in Orange City, Nor-Am Cold Storage in Le Mars, and was most recently employed at Lift Solutions in Sioux City.

Vance enjoyed outdoor activities such as camping, fishing, hunting, boating and especially riding his Harley motorcycle.

He is survived by his wife, soul-mate and best friend, Shelly; his mother, Dorothy Reece of Hawarden; children, Dwayne Reece of Lakewood, Calif., Gidget Reece of Chino Valley, Ariz., Shane Reece of Hawarden, Dezeree Reece of Hudson, S.D., Tabetha Reece of Marshall, Minn., Anthony Price of Ankeny, Matthew Reece in the U.S. Navy and currently in Great Lakes, Ill., Nicholas Boyles Ferraro of Franklin Square, N.Y., Hope Boyles Reece, Noel Boyles Reece, and Noah Boyles Reece, all of Hawarden; grandchildren, Dustin, Aiden, Michael, Aurora, Landon, Dylan, and Kallie; and his parents-in-law, Ferrell and Grace Boyles of Hawarden.

Vance was preceded in death by his father, Harold Reece.

Funeral services were at 10:30 a.m. today (Monday) at Trinity Lutheran Church in Hawarden with the Rev. Todd Bunge officiating. Burial was at Grace Hill Cemetery in Hawarden. Visitation was after 2 p.m. Sunday, with a prayer service at 5 p.m. with family visitation following at the church. The family requested wearing Harley attire to the prayer service. The Porter Funeral Home of Hawarden was in charge of arrangements.
