MARCUS, IOWA: Betty A. Smith, 80, of Marcus, died Saturday, March 03, 2007, at the Heartland Care Center in Marcus, Iowa. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, March 6, 2007, at Holy Name Catholic Church in Marcus, Iowa, with Rev. Eugene Murray officiating. Burial will be at Holy Name Cemetery. Visitation begins after 3:00 p.m. Monday, with a rosary at 4:00 p.m., and a Scripture wake service at 7:00 p.m. all at the Earnest ~ Rohde Funeral Home in Marcus, Iowa.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Holy Name Catholic Church in Marcus, with the Rev. Eugene Murray officiating. Burial will be in Holy Name Cemetery. Visitation will after 3 p.m. today, with a rosary at 4 p.m. and a Scripture wake service at 7 p.m., at Earnest-Rohde Funeral Home in Marcus.
Betty was born in Remsen, Iowa, on May 2, 1926, the daughter of Frank and Bessie (Cosgrove) Lang. She grew up on the family farm near Remsen, Iowa and graduated from St. Mary's High School in 1944. Following graduation, she was employed as a bookkeeper at West Iowa Telephone Company in Remsen.
On Feb. 19, 1949, she married James A. Smith of Marcus. She was a devoted partner, mother and homemaker. She enjoyed cards, especially bridge. She was a member of the Bridgettes Club, the Mercules Bridge Club and a Couples Bridge Club for over 30 years. She loved Tuesday Ladies Bowling League, Ladies and Couples Golf Leagues and shared many rounds of golf with family and friends. She enjoyed and supported her family's music and sports accomplishments.
She was a lifelong member of Holy Name Catholic Church, St. Ann's Guild, and was a charter member of the Heartland Care Center Auxiliary. Betty entered Heartland Care Center in May 2003.
Survivors include her husband of 58 years, Jim of Marcus; a son, Steve Smith and his wife, Linda of Marcus; two daughters, Patti Cave and her husband, Gene of Remsen and Janice Frank and her husband, Jared of Urbandale, Iowa; her grandchildren, Jennifer (Smith) Hoesing and husband, Pete of Tallahassee, Fla., Chris and Nina Smith of Astoria, N.Y., Kathy (Cave) Sitzmann and husband, Brad of Waukee, Iowa, Brad Cave of Marcus, Craig Cave of Ames, Iowa and Paul Frank of Urbandale, Iowa. She is also survived by a brother, Paul Lang and his wife, Shirley of Remsen; a sister, Mary Lux and husband, Floyd of Cherokee, Iowa; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
