Le Mars, Iowa – Elsie Marienau, 85, of Le Mars, Iowa passed away on Wednesday, November 29, 2006 at Plymouth Manor Care Center in Le Mars, Iowa. Funeral services will take place at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday at Christ Lutheran Church (Grant Township), rural Le Mars, Iowa. Rev. Dan Gerrietts will officiate. Burial will follow at the church cemetery. Visitation will begin at 2:00 p.m. on Friday at the Mauer – Johnson Funeral Home of Le Mars. The family will be present beginning at 5:00 p.m. with a prayer service scheduled at 7:00 p.m. There will also be one hour of visitation at the church prior to the funeral.

Elsie Almina Marie Marienau was born on November 29, 1921 near Le Mars, Iowa, the daughter of Johann U. and Engeling M. (Dirks) Hartmann. She attended country school in Grant Township near her home.

On May 9, 1946 Elsie and Melvin K. Marienau were united in marriage at Christ Lutheran Church (Grant Township) rural Le Mars. The couple made their home in Merrill, Iowa. In 1959 Elsie and Melvin moved to the family farm in Grant Township. They farmed there until moving to an acreage near Le Mars in 1963. Two years ago they moved to the Floyd Valley Apartments. In January of this year Elsie and Melvin moved to the Plymouth Manor Care Center in Le Mars. Elsie worked at Jo-Nee Manufacturing in Le Mars from 1955 until her retirement in 1993.

Elsie was a member of Christ Lutheran Church (Grant Township) rural Le Mars, Iowa. She enjoyed sewing for her family, cooking, camping, and gardening. Most of all she loved to spoil her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She will be lovingly remembered by her husband Melvin of Le Mars; a daughter and her husband Linda and John Conover of Le Mars; a son and his wife Terry and Kathy Marienau of Le Mars; five grandchildren Jon Conover, Sara Conover and her fiancé Damon Magstadt, Jeff and Dena Marienau, Mark and Judy Marienau and Matthew Marienau; great-grandchildren Kelsey, Morgan, Payton and Trent Marienau and Henry Marienau, Elsie Marienau, and Carter Alan Conover; a sister-in-law Jean Winterfield of Ord, Nebraska; an aunt Edna Hardacre; as well as nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and a brother Raymond Hartmann.

Memorials may be directed to Hospice of Siouxland.
