Charles (Chuck) Daniel Bell went to be with his Lord and Savior on September 10, 2010 at his home at Prescott Samaritan Village, with his daughter, Jeanne by his side. He was born on August 9, 1915 in Villisca, Iowa to William Harvey Bell and Laura Mae (Wendling) Bell.
He graduated from Cherokee High School (Iowa) and Simpson College in Indianola, Iowa in 1938. Chuck received the Distinguished Alumni Award in 1986 from Simpson College. He served in World War II in the Army Air Corp. Chuck married Frances Audrey Gabel on May 31, 1940, who preceded him in death. He later married Grace Swanson Collins who also preceded him in death.
He started into the insurance business in Cherokee, Iowa. He moved to Prescott in 1961 and continued in the insurance business joining Pritchard and Lytle Agency and later it became Lytle and Bell and then Bell Insurance Agency. He and Fran flew back to South Dakota; the mission was to invite Samaritan Village to look at Prescott, Arizona to establish a retirement complex. He became the principal fund raiser.
After retirement, which he didn't like, he started a lending library of Christian books and tapes. Later he started his mission to open The Christian Corner and retired from that business. Some of his activities included: Gideons International, district and conference lay leader in the Methodist Church in Iowa and Arizona; Red Cross; Chamber of Commerce; Rotary International; a charter member of Prescott Community Church where he served as a deacon and elder; and served as President of the Downtown Prescott Association. For relaxation, Chuck liked to golf, have coffee with his downtown buddies, go camping, and play cards with his brother-in-law, Bruce Swanson.
Chuck is preceded in death by his grandson, Steven Bell; nephew, Corbin Tindall, killed in combat in Vietnam; two brothers: Harold and Sherwood; and sister, Helen Peterson.
He is survived by his daughter, Jeanne of Prescott; son, Bruce and his wife Rita of Colorado; five grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren; nieces: Beverly Ross, Marilea Wade, Sherry Folks and Ruth Ann Peterson, and numerous grand nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life Service will be at 3pm on Thursday, September 16, 2010 at the American Evangelical Lutheran Church, 1085 Scott Drive, Prescott. The family requests that donations be made to Gideons International, P.O. Box 1506, Prescott, Arizona, 86302 in Chuck's memory.
His remains will be interred with his wife, Frances in Pleasant Valley Cemetery in rural Merrill, Iowa. Hampton Funeral Home was entrusted with the arrangements.
