When a child, he moved with his parents to Kankakee, Ill., where he attended the schools of that place. At the age of 25 he located at Cherokee, Iowa. On May 1, 1886, he was united in marriage with Fannie Pendleton at Cherokee. To this union five children were born, all of whom were able to be with him during his last sickness. They are: Mrs. Jenny Cotton, of Sioux City, la.; Roy, Glen, Everett and Earl Orr, of Plymouth county. About thirty years ago the family came to Plymouth County and settled near Hinton.

About twenty-two years ago they came to the farm, near Adaville, on which they have resided up to the time of his death. He had been a man of remarkable strength and vitality until about three years ago, when he was stricken with heart trouble; but partially regained his health until this fall, when the malady again made appearance. The Saturday previous to his death he became worse, and all that medical skill and loving hands could do was performed until the morning of December 12 he quietly slipped away.

He leaves, besides his wife and five children, five grandchildren, one great-grandchild; one sister, Hannah Anderson, of Bradley, Ill., besides a large number of friends.

Funeral services were held December 14 in the Adaville U. B. Church, conducted by Rev. N. A. Hollingshead. Interment was in the Pleasant Valley cemetery at Adaville
