Janice Ann Reelfs was born July 19, 1942 in Le Mars, Iowa, the daughter of Henry and Anna (Lousted) Reelfs. She attended country school in Grant Township, Plymouth County, Iowa. Following her schooling, she began working for Archie’s Waeside in Le Mars.

She was united in marriage to Aldon “Ed” Sanow. She then went to work at Westmar College in Le Mars in housekeeping. She also did cleaning for many area residents. After some time, she began working for K-Products in Orange City, Iowa. Ed passed away October 13, 1972.

Janice later married Milo Koerner. She then became a homemaker for her family and began caring for her sister, Joyce Reelfs. Janice and Milo then divorced but still remained close friends. Janice began working at Jerry Johnson’s Chicken Farm in Plymouth County and later went to work for Coil Craft in Hawarden, Iowa until she became disabled and was unable to work.

She didn’t let her disability affect her caring heart. She loved to help her daughter with her daycare business, where many of the kids referred to her as “grandma”.

She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Akron. She had also volunteered with Girl Scout’s of America. Through the years, she enjoyed collecting knick knacks, reading, and word search puzzles. But most of all, she loved her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

Survivors include her 3 children: Mark Sanow (Lisa) of Huron, SD, Tammie Toben (Loren) of rural Akron, IA, and Julie Ford (Greg) of Akron, IA; 15 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; her former husband: Milo Koerner of Sioux City, IA; and a special friend: Shelia Ford of Akron, IA; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Ed Sanow; a brother: Larry Reelfs; 3 sisters: Joyce Reelfs, Dolores Betcke, and one in infancy; her daughter: Genice Sanow; and a grandson: Eric Toben.
