G. Vernal Bye, 61, Akron died Friday (March 26, 1982) in the Akron hospital of an apparent heart attack.

Services were held at 1:30 p.m. Monday in the Adaville United Methodist Church, rural Merrill. The Rev. Donald Bardole officiated. Burial was in Pleasant Hill cemetery, rural Merrill, under direction of the Schroeder Funeral Home, Akron. Military graveside services were conducted by Hoschler American Legion Post 186 of Akron. A prayer service was held at 7 p.m. Sunday in the funeral home.

Pallbearers were Allen Vander Helm, Ted Foy, Gerald Kruse, Richard Zimmerman, Duane Coon, and Cyrus Knapp.

Mr. Bye was born March 8, 1921, in Gayville, S.D. to Clayton and Mabel (Olson) Bye. He served with the army in World War II. He married Mavis Fry, August 14, 1946 in Vermillion. He had lived in the Akron and Westfield area since 1951.

He was a member of the Adaville United Methodist church, Hoschler American Legion post and Vetrans of Foreign Wars.

Survivors include his wife, Mavis; two daughters, Cheryl Beeck of Vermillion, Deb Erickson of Akron; two sons, Gayton and Gordon, both of Akron; his mother, Mrs. Mabel Bye of Vermillion; one brother, Donald of Prince George, British Columbia; two granddaughters, Amy Beeck and Tracy Erickson; and one grandson, Jason Erickson.
