JOHN BENSON DIED SUNDAY AT HOME
Had Been Ill For Past YearJohn Benson, 67, died Sunday, August 8, at his home 327 4th Ave. S.W. Mr. Benson has not been well the past year, but was not seriously ill until he suffered a stroke two weeks ago.
John Benson was born October 13, 1875, at Menominee, Wisconsin, and was married to Minnie Dickmeyer January 18, 1899. They moved to LeMars in 1917 where he continued to work for the Illinois Central. He had worked for them since he was 15.
Survivors include the widow, two sons, Willard of LeMars and Sergeant Richard Benson, Ft. Lewis, Washington; four daughters, Mrs. Lloyd Possom, Northville, South Dakota, Edna of Los Angeles, Mrs. Wallace Possom, Eau Claire, Wisconsin, Mrs. Henry Edwards of Denison, Texas; seven grandchildren; four great grandchildren; four brothers, Alfred of Menominee, Wisconsin, William, Minneapolis, James, Beaver Dam, Wisconsin, and Andrew of Eau Claire, Wisconsin.
Mr. Benson was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith and was a faithful member of St. John’s Lutheran Church and of the adult Bible class.
Funeral services will be held Thursday at 2 o’clock at the St. John’s American Lutheran Church, Rev. L.L. Belk officiating, and the interment will be in the LeMars cemetery.
Mauers are in charge of the funeral arrangements.
