Irene C. Mueller, 99, formerly of Maurice, died Wednesday, April 21, 2010, at Countryside Senior Living in Sioux City.

Irene Clara Marie Eilts was born Dec. 5, 1910, on the Vlotho family farm near Ireton. She was one of four children born to Reiner and Mathilda (Vlotho) Eilts. Irene attended country school near her home. Irene was baptized, confirmed and, on April 26, 1933, was married to Lloyd Mueller, at St. John's Lutheran Church, rural Ireton. The couple made their home on a farm south of Maurice. They later moved to Craig, where Lloyd operated a machine shop for five years.

In 1949 the family returned to farming southeast of Ireton. Irene and Lloyd retired in November of 1965 and moved into Maurice. Lloyd died Dec. 11, 1978. Irene remained in Maurice until moving to Char-Mac Assisted Living in Lawton, in October 2004. She later moved to Countryside Senior Living Aug. 15, 2009.

She was a lifetime member of St. John's Lutheran Church where she taught Sunday School and participated in Ladies' Aid. Irene enjoyed playing cards, bus trips, and took sewing and crocheting classes. She also made quilts for her grandchildren.

Irene will be lovingly remembered by her son, George Mueller and his wife Ruth of Sioux City; a daughter, Lois Zellmer and her husband Eldon of Kingsley; a son, Allan Mueller and his wife Pam of North Liberty; nine grandchildren: Jim Mueller, Pam Fluent, John Mueller, Penni Pearson, Lisa Gottburg, Amy Sommers, Wanda Anderson, Ben Mueller and Jakeline Dorman; 10 great-grandchildren: Zachary and Lukas Mueller, Robert and Patrick Gottburg, Seth, Dan and Jackie Sommers, Alexis Anderson, Maria and Christina Dorman; and a brother, Alwin Eilts and his wife Margie of Le Mars.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Lloyd; an infant sister Lola; brothers Cletus Eilts and Marlin Eilts and his wife Fern; and in-laws George and Lena Mueller.

Funeral services were at 11 a.m. today (Monday) at St. John's Lutheran Church, rural Ireton, with the Rev. David Daumer officiating. Burial was at the church cemetery. Visitation was after 2 p.m. Sunday at the Mauer - Johnson Funeral Home of Le Mars. The family was present from 6-8 p.m. with a prayer service at 7 p.m. There will also be one hour of visitation at the church prior to the funeral on Monday.
