Paul Gerhardt Kading, 92, of Ireton. IA, died on Thursday afternoon, January 4,1996, at Hass Hillcrest Care Center in Hawarden, following a lengthy illness. Services were held on Monday morning, January 8, 1996 at St Paul's Lutheran Church in Ireton, the Reverend Perry Schefelker officiating. Burial was in St. John's Lutheran Cemetery, rural Ireton, under the direction of the Porter Dow Funeral Home in Ireton.

Mr. Kading was born in Walnut Township, Adair County, IA, on February 25, 1903, the son of Edward and Albertina (Storck) Kading. He was baptized on April 26, 1903, at St. John's Lutheran Church in Casey, IA, and confirmed in German by Pastor C.D. Nuoffer on March 24, 1918, at St. John's Lutheran Church, rural Ireton. He attended rural schools in Madison County, IA, and in Sioux County, IA. Paul was married to Elvira Toenjes on August 16, 1933, at St. John's, rural Ireton, by Reverend Nuoffer. The couple farmed southeast of Ireton and later farmed and fed livestock at McNally, IA. They moved to Ireton in 1966, and he retired in 1972. On August 3, 1994, he entered Hass Hillcrest Care Center, where he resided until his death.

Mr. Kading was a trustee in Reading and Washington townships, and helped lo organize the combined rural and Ireton fire department. He was a board member of the Ireton Co-Op Society and served as director of the Security Savings Bank in Ireton. He served as chairman, elder, trustee and financial secretary at rural St. John's, before transferring to St. Paul's in Ireton in 1966.

Survivors include his wife, Elvira, of Ireton; two daughters and their husbands, Marlene and Vernon Eilts of Ireton, and Paulie and Dr. Arlin Juffer of Sibley; six grandchildren, Jeff Eilts and his wife, Missy of Ireton, Jim Eilts of Mesa, AZ, Paul Juffer and his wife Paula of Iowa City, Julie Juffer of Des Moines, Mary Jo and her husband, Kevin Judd of Charlotte, NC, and Matt Juffer of Des Moines; three great-grandchildren, Mallory and Madalyn Eilts of Ireton and Ben Juffer of Iowa City; a brother and his wife, Edward and Erlene Kading of Ireton; a sister-in-law, Lavon Toenjes of Hawarden; a brother-in-law, Wendell Toenjes of rural Le Mars; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Margurete Heidbrink of Le Mars and Edna VanderHamm of Ireton; and one brother, Martin Kading of Ireton.
