Monica “Dolly” Jauer, 93, of Sioux City, Iowa, formerly of rural Hinton, Iowa passed away Monday, October 11, 2010 at Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City, Iowa.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, October 16, 2010 at St. Joseph Catholic Church – Neptune, rural Hinton, Iowa. Reverend Dan Grieving will celebrate. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery. Visitation with the family present will be after 4:00 p.m. Friday, October 15, 2010, with a Parish Rosary at 5:00 p.m., and Scriptural Wake Service at 7:00 p.m., all at Carlsen-Feuerstein Funeral Home in Le Mars, Iowa. Visitation will resume from 9:30 a.m. until service time on Saturday at the church.
Monica Margaret Sitzmann was born January 8, 1917 in Elkhorn Township, rural Plymouth County, Iowa, the daughter of Lewis and Mathilda (Ruhland) Sitzmann. She was raised in Elkhorn Township and attended country school and later high school in Kingsley, Iowa. She graduated from Kingsley High School in 1934. Following her schooling, she did housework for neighbors and later kept house for her brother, Sylvester, and his young daughter, Marilyn.
She was united in marriage to Glenn “Buzz” Jauer on February 16, 1944 at St. Joseph Catholic Church – Neptune. Together, they farmed near Hinton, Iowa, raising crops and livestock. In 1975, they built an acreage near the farm and lived there until 2006, when they moved to Holy Spirit Assisted Living in Sioux City, Iowa.
Dolly was a longtime member of St. Joseph Catholic Church – Neptune and a member of Catholic Daughter’s of America. She enjoyed her times at the Hinton Senior Citizens Center. She loved cooking for friends and family and playing cards, especially bridge. She and Buzz were active in many “neighborhood” card clubs through the years. She and Buzz enjoyed their fishing trips, including those to Canada and Minnesota. They enjoyed traveling through the years. But most of all, she loved the times spent with her family, especially her grandchildren. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
Survivors include her husband of over 66 years, Buzz of Sioux City, IA; her children: Roger (Karen) Jauer of rural Hinton, IA, Richard Jauer of rural Hinton, IA, Joyce (Adrian) Thill of Minneapolis, MN, and Jim (Kim) Jauer of rural Hinton, IA; 9 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; two sisters: Alvina Nuebel and Mildred Hoss of Le Mars, IA; a brother: Roy (Martha) Sitzmann, Jr.; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers: Sylvester and Venard Sitzmann; and a sister: Eta Mai.
Casket Bearers: Doug Jauer, Brant Jauer, Kurt Jauer, Jeremiah Jauer, Christopher Thill, Matt Harper, and Mike Morran.
Honorary Casket Bearers: Stephanie Morran, Deanna Jauer, Alicia Harper, Jenna Thill, Crystal Jauer, and Candace Jauer.
