Elizabeth L. “Betty Deiterman, 89, of Le Mars passed away Friday October 8, 2010 at Floyd Valley Hospital in Le Mars.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday October 14, 2010 at St. James Catholic Church in Le Mars, with Reverend Matt Hewitt presiding. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery in Le Mars. Visitations will begin on Wednesday at 3:00 p.m. at the Carlsen-Feuerstein Funeral Home in Le Mars, where there will be a Parish rosary at 4:00 p.m. and a Vigil Prayer Service at 7:00 p.m. Visitation will also be at St. James Church Thursday morning for one hour prior to the Mass.

The former Elizabeth “Betty” Lorraine Obermire was born September 23, 1921 on a farm south of Le Mars, IA, the daughter of Joseph Harvey and Alice Mary (Levins) Obermire. Her family moved to a farm in Holt County Nebraska when she was a very young girl, but returned to Le Mars a few years later and lived on a farm southwest of Le Mars. She attended country school at the Steele Schoolhouse south of town. On December 27, 1952 Betty married Vincent B. Deiterman at St. James Catholic Church in Le Mars. Following their marriage, they farmed for five years southwest of Royal, IA before moving back to the Obermire family farm just south of Le Mars in 1957, operating the farm until 1989 at which time they retired and moved into Le Mars. Her husband Vince passed away on March 5, 2010.

Betty was a member of St. James Catholic Church and the Altar Society, the Good Neighbors Club, and Farm Bureau. She loved spending time with her family and seeing her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Survivors include four children: David Deiterman and his wife Kathy of Las Vegas, NV, Donna Schmitt and her husband Marvin of Remsen, Denice Peters and her husband Doug of Denison, IA, and Diane Deiterman of Le Mars; four grandchildren: Chelsea Deiterman of Las Vegas, NV, Brian Schmitt of Remsen, Mandy Lange and her husband John of Carroll, IA, and Mike Peters of Denison; three great grandchildren: Sarah, Michelle and Scott Lange of Carroll, IA; a sister Rosemary Carney and her husband Joe of Longmont, CO; sisters-in-law: Rosalind Lohberger of Paullina, IA, Marge Stanek of Sioux City, Sylvia Nikles of Sutherland, IA and Lois Deiterman of Sutherland, IA.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Vincent on March 5, 2010; two brothers: Joseph Obermire at birth and Bobby Obermire in childhood; and a sister Mary Obermire.
