Alice C. Gates, 85, of Le Mars, formerly of Kingsley passed away Wednesday, December 1, 2010 at the Good Samaritan Society in Le Mars.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, December 6, 2010 at the Carlsen Funeral Home in Le Mars with Reverend Jason Larson of the Le Mars United Methodist Church officiating. Interment will be at the Kingsley Cemetery in Kingsley. Visitation with the family present will be after 3:00 p.m. Sunday, December 5, 2010 at the Carlsen Funeral Home in Le Mars followed by a 5:00 p.m. Prayer Service Sunday evening at the funeral home. Visitation will continue Monday morning from 9:30 a.m. until service time.
Pallbearers will be Scott Kuchel, Alex Gates, Jeff Pottebaum, Andrew Pottebaum, Chad Hoppe, and Jim Neilsen. Honorary casket bearers will be Jessica Pottebaum, Jill Hoppe, Janie Neilsen, Jamie Gates, and Angela Kuchel.
Alice Charlotte Heinse was born August 12, 1925 on a farm near Midway, Iowa to Louis A. and Helena (Schumann) Heinse. She was raised on a farm near Moville, Iowa and attended country school near her home. Alice was united in marriage to Walter Robinson in 1945. He died in a car accident in 1954. Alice later was united in marriage to Myles D. Gates on November 26, 1961 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Moville. Myles passed on February 10, 1977. Alice continued to live in Kingsley until moving to Le Mars and later to Park Place Estates. For the last 3 months, Alice was a resident of the Good Samaritan Society in Le Mars.
Alice had been a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Moville and while living in Kingsley she was a member of the Congregational United Church of Christ. She was a longtime member of PEO and TTT in Kingsley. Alice was able to enjoy traveling abroad to several European countries and extensively throughout the United States with family and friends during her retirement years. She enjoyed quilting, knitting, and crocheting; and volunteered at Kingsley Nursing and Rehab Center for several years.
Survivors include her 2 children; Allan Gates and his wife Judith of Le Mars and LuAnne Kuchel and her husband Blaine of Okoboji, Iowa; 5 grandchildren: Jessica Pottebaum and her husband Jeff of Remsen, Jill Hoppe and her husband Chad of Le Mars, Alex Gates and his wife Jamie of Omaha, NE, Scott Kuchel and his wife Angela of Ft. Lauderdale, FL, and Janie Neilsen and her husband Jim of White Bear Lake, MN; 11 great grandchildren; 2 brothers, Alfred Heinse of Sioux City and Alvin Heinse of Kingsley; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husbands, brothers, Willie, Carl, and Paul Heinse; and sisters, Helen Ellis and Ruth Benson.
