Roger Patterson, 69, of Akron, Iowa passed away Monday, November 9, 2009 at Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City, Iowa.

A Celebration of Life will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday, November 14, 2009 at the Akron Fire Station in Akron. Visitation with the family present will be 1 hour prior to the service on Saturday at the Fire Station. The Carlsen Funeral Home – Schroeder Chapel in Akron is in charge of arrangements.

Roger Harold Patterson was born June 9, 1940 in Tabor, Iowa, the son of Harold and Neva (Carlberg) Patterson. Roger attended school in Thurman, Iowa and graduated from Thurman High School.

Following his schooling, Roger began his career in the transportation business. For the past 30 years, he has been a truck driver for Warren Transport in Waterloo, Iowa. In December of this year, he was to be honored for his 30 years of service and dedication to the company.

In 1981, Roger moved with his family to Akron, Iowa. He was united in marriage to Patricia Robertson Coyle on September 20, 1996 in Elk Point, South Dakota.

Roger’s life was dedicated to the trucking business. When he wasn’t on the road, he was working on his truck. He was a member of the Truckload Carriers Association for many years. Through the years, he received several safe operator awards. Roger will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

Survivors include his wife, Patricia of Akron, IA; his mother: Neva Patterson of Akron, IA; 4 children: Faithann Kemnitz and her husband Wally of Leigh, NE, Robin Kinnison and her husband Randy of Ault, CO, Roger Dean Ramsey and his wife Robin of Nunn, CO, and Jeff Patterson and his wife Kelly of Craig, CO; 3 step-children: Shane Coyle and his wife Heather of Akron, IA, Jon Coyle and his wife Julie of Akron, IA, and Ryan Coyle and his wife Laci of North Sioux City, SD; 13 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; a sister: Jean Hankins and her husband Wayne of Akron, IA; his mother in law: Derith Robertson of Akron, IA; 2 nephews: Greg and Steve Hankins; and his faithful companion: “Tucker”.

He was preceded in death by his father, Harold Patterson; his father in law: Calvin Robertson; and 2 faithful companions: “Jake” and “Lulu”.

Memorials can be made in Roger’s name to the June E. Nylen Cancer Center.
