Eleanor May (Clasen) Page, 87, of Stanton, Calif., died Saturday, Nov. 12, 2005, in Stanton.

The former Eleanor May Clasen was born July 17, 1918, in Le Mars, the daughter of Herman and Pearl (Diediker) Clasen. Her father farmed south of Le Mars and later owned Clasen Jewelry Store where he worked as a jeweler and watchmaker. When the family moved to Le Mars in 1945, they resided at 800 Central Avenue in a home built around 1900 which is recognized today for its Queen Anne Victorian design.

Eleanor graduated from Le Mars High School in 1936. She graduated from Western Union College in Le Mars after graduation. In Le Mars, she worked as a long distance operator. She worked at the John Deere factory in Davenport during World War II. In 1945, she moved to California where she worked as a bookkeeper until her retirement.

Eleanor married Kenneth Page on Sept. 8, 1962. They resided in Huntington Beach and Westminster during their married life. Eleanor was a member of the Evangelical Free Church in Huntington Beach.

Mrs. Page will be lovingly remembered as a volunteer and founding board member of the Animal Assistance League of Orange County, California. She remained a member of that organization until her death. For many years, she volunteered in the thrift shop operated by the League and taught pet education in area elementary and junior high schools.

Her family remembers her for her great wit and love of life. She was a great storyteller and natural actress and comedienne. Her compassion was demonstrated by her caring for her sister at the time Dorothy was fighting cancer. She donated her body to the University of California College of Medicine at Irvine.

Survivors include her two brothers, Stanley Max and his wife Nancy Clasen of Washington, D.C., and James Robert Clasen of Le Mars.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth Page, and sister Dorothy Clasen and her favorite cat, George.
